Physical Therapy is an integral service of the Integrated Management Systems Health Care Family. PT combines passive modalities with therapeutic exercise to rehabilitate the spine and other parts of the body. Passive modalities include heat/cold therapy, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, massage, and joint mobilization. These modalities are not the sole treatment, but supplement therapeutic exercise. Active therapy , or therapeutic exercise includes stretching, strengthening, and postural modification to rehabilitate the spine and prevent re-injury. Other subspecialties our therapist specialize in include: orthopaedic, sports, chronic pain syndrome, ergonomic modification, and industrial rehabilitation for injured workers.

How Can Physical Therapy Help You?

First-TexasThe main purpose of physical therapy is to help the patient return to active life as quickly as possible. Therapy strives to reduce pain , increase flexibility, range of motion, and function, build strength, and correct posture. Upon assessing the patient, our experienced therapist will evaluate all components of movement including: strength, range of motion, flexibility, balance, posture, body mechanics, coordination, endurance, general mobility i.e. walking, stair climbing, getting in and out of chairs, beds, etc…. After evaluation, the therapist will develop a customized treatment program unique to each patient to help decrease deficits and restore function. The therapist and patient will work together as a team toward wellness.

Another important component in physical therapy is patient education. Our patients learn how the spine works, proper body mechaics, common disorders and their causes, benefits of good posture, importance of physical fitness and its relationship to injury and disease prevention.

The three key components of every treatment include:

  • Education about the cause of the problem
  • Instruction in exercise to improve function
  • Patient participation. Compliance and participation by each patient is crucial to the success of the therapy program.
